Dear all,
We at SGS (independant oil lab in Holland) are facing problems with determinating water at ppm levels in Dynapak (high viscous polybutene)
Client is asking fot ASTM D 1744-mod (what ever mod means to them?)
Direct measurement is not possible due to high viscosity at working temperature.
We have modified the ASTM by first diluting the sample 1-to-1 with dried toluene, testing the so**ent also, and calculating the nett water content in the sample as such.
Unfortunately, we are finding all kinds of results (in and out of spec =80ppm)
Does anyone have any advice or experience with this matter?

Though I do not have much experience in tracing water content in poly iso butene, still I think you can try Karl Fischer method or ASTM D 95 method to find out water content.ASTM D95 is distillation method, while Karl Fischer method is titration method,by which you can find out a water content in ppm.
