I heard about silicon Oil. How is it different from other Hydraulic ? Lub Oil and what are its applications ? What are the major additives in this type of Oil ? and what base oil is used in manufacturing this oil ?
Can any one throw some lite on this ?

I dont think Silicone Oil is the absolutely correct definition (as far as I understand), but Silicone Fluid. Some of the Silicone Fluids are based on Polydimethylsiloxane, some of Alkylaryl Siloxane fluid (According to Dow Corning). I do not know much about theese products, except they are expensive (we have some customers using it as insulating oil in transformers).

If anyone out there has more information I would be very interessed.

Silicone fluid is also used as brake fluid.

THEY ARE SOFTENERS OF VARIOUS INDUSTRIES. THEY ARE HEAT RESISTANT IN TYRES.ETC

Used in some DOT5 brake fluids and used as antiform agents in lube oils.
