I am by far no expert on diesel engines but, I do have a handy reference book which list the elements found on different components of a piece of equipment. I hope the following information helps.
Reference: "Sourcebook for used oil elements" by Noria pg. 12 Manganese (Mn) can show up in the following components of a diesel engine as: Minor element: Wrist pin & bushing Piston rings-various Trace element: Gears- misc. Crank shaft Cam shaft Cam follower Valve train Cylinder liner Roller/ball bearings-various Minor element- medium concentration range relative to a Major element. Appx. 20-50% of a major element Trace element- very low concentration relative to Major & Minor elements. May no show up in a concentration high enough to register above instrument detection limits. The Sourcebook is a great reference guide to have as it covers many different catagories of equipment. I think you can purchase one from the Noria store on line. This message has been edited.
