As transmission oil contains sulfur. If a zinc coated bracket was used inside a transmission but not submerged would the sulfur react with the oxygen in the air and form sulfur dioxide and would this then corrode the zinc plating. The transmission temperture max is about 120-140 degress C. Or would the sulfur react to the zinc and form zinc sulfide.??

Simon - I cannot answer with the scientific certainty, but my honest opinion is that you are safe. Concentration of sulfur is not nearly enough high to generate a significant amount of SO2 necessary to corrode un-submerged zinc-plated bracket. In addition, for that to happen, there has to be water present to form sulfuric acid, which is hardly possible at mentioned temperatures. For the same reason (limited amount of sulfur present in oil), and due to very low sublimity of sulfur, I would not expect any formation of ZnS on this bracket. But, I must say, I have been wrong before….

If I remember correctly Transmission manufacturers ( in Germany ) do not permit use of Transmision / Gear oils containing Sulphur in any form. This may be standard now.
