Hi,

I'm curious as to the effects of soot on water contamination. Currently, when I seed an oil sample (Diesel oil) that already contains water contamination, with soot, the saturation level of the oil increases dramatically. In other words, if my oil is only 30% saturated before adding the soot, it may be 60% saturated shortly after adding soot. Is this common? Does soot effect oils ability to hold water in a dissolved state or is there some other mechanism at work here?

Thanks
Adromo

Not to my knowlege.

I belive it is more likely soot interfers with the %Saturation meeter by interfering with the signal in the probe.
