I'm looking for a suitable fluid to flush sample bottles and fittings prior to use. I have a large number of bottles, caps, and fill spouts to assemble and need a way to flush everything before putting it together and storing for future use.
Hal has raised an important point, the fluid should be such that it does not add any acidity or alkalinity to oil , should not add any contamination, no water, no detergent, no fuel etc.

We have good experience using pre-cleaned heptane-n. (filtred through 0.2µm membrane filter). This product is very compatibile with oils. It is also possible to use pre-cleaned lamp oil I think. Probably cheaper.
I use a precleaned petroleum spirit/solvent (filtered through 0.8µm membrane filter) with good results. The spirit evaporates very quickly leaving no residue to interfere with spectro results. The only drawback being that it has a low flash point.
