Give me some help here guys. At my plant I am a "Jack of all trades and Master of none". I am involved in Tribology, Vibration analysis, and Thermography (less than a year in Predictive Maintenance). I am a "Data Dog", I know enough about all three areas to bark and point if I see a problem. As far as oil analysis I would like to do more than bark.
What I need from you are some good reference books I can refer to for a better understanding as to the why of oil analysis. I have been to Noria's Oil Analysis I course, but am not crazy about the book that came with the class. I would like some reference material that will explain the what and why of additives, acid/ base levels ect... sort of like the "Idiot's Guide to Oil Analysis". Thanks, |

Pete,
There are several sources that can give you the information you are looking for. I don't know what book you got, but Oil Analysis Basics is a good book. Also, Insight Services has a practical guide you can get for free, visit www.testoil.com You can also read and use Lubrication Fundamentals by Pirro and Wessol. That book will give you an insight to the basic reasonings of additives and others and what is used when. Finally, the 2003 and 2004 Proceedings from the Lubrication Excellence Conference have many good articles about oil analysis. Hope this helps. |
