Does anyone have any idea of what should be the dynamic viscosity range(in cP) of industrial and engine oils?

The dynamic viscosity will be different for different grades as per the SAE classification system. Here it is not clear that which grade you are looking for ?

I would just like to know an order of magnitude for the absolute viscosity in centipoises for lubricants.

Dear Duarte.
Remember that you only need make a multiplication between cinematic viscosity and density. I think you could look for the usual cinematic viscosity of the industrial and engine oils (in Cts), and their densities, and at last, only make the product between them. Units are: [Cps] = [Cts] x [gr/cm3] Regards. |

For practical use, you have to take other factore into consideracion. The recent work done to raise the HTHS on 15W-40 motor oils from the 2.9 cP we used to think was good to 3.5 in the CI-4 and 4+ in a number of the better Group II and synthetic motor oils shows that once you put it to work, the basic non-stressed viscosity is not all that counts.
