If you want to find out a water content of 0.10% and above, then Dean Stark Apparatus is good. For below 0.10%,the Karl Fischer Method is better.
Crackle test also indicates water content. |

Exactly what Krishnakumar said, but would raise the minimum limit for accurate water testing by Dean&Starke to 0.5%. Some labs really struggle to get an accurate water measurement from Dean&Stark.
An introduction to the crackle test: (keep in mind the crackle is a general guide to water content). http://www.practicingoilanalysis.com/Backup/199809/crackle2.html |

You could also look into water determination by using 'calcium hydride' - although not sure how it would react to a bio oil.

hello
to determinate the water contenent of 0.5% and above, we use the Dean Stark metode. We also need to measure the water contenent in dieletric oil (<40 ppm).Anyone know any metod except Karl Fischer |
