Dexsil makes a portable TAN kit. Kittiwake (believe they were bought out) had a portable kit. Not sure if TAN will tell you anything, will depend on additives in your new oil(ZDDP and some newer additive packages have a TAN) and in the used oil (different/same) and the % contamination you are looking for.

I intend to check the incoming base oil for any signs of adultration with recycled oil.I will me manufacturing various lube products from this base oil . Pl correct me if my approach towards detection by checking TAN values is wrong.Intention of using a portable tan kit would be to get on the spot results . If possible suggest suitable method.

As i understand you want to blend the base stock for lube oil - so you can have a stationary unit, and you can look for supplier of Potentiometer.

If TAN is what you wish to chk... well the experts on the forum can help you better - thought this setup i am recomending to you would cost in region of 40 K INR.

Dear Urja Ent.
can you tel me what should be the TAN value of an unadulterated base oil. and what is the TAN limit set by the codes for lube blending . Can this value be measured by Potentiometric titration . What is the range of TAN values that can be measured by a potentiometric titrator.

Regards
Mandar
