We are currently taking oil samples from our scrapper/clarifier motors and gearboxes. For those of you not generally familiar with that process, these are big holding water tanks with a very slow turning (1rpm/min) scrapper rate. Everyone is aware of the water ingress in the gearboxes that continues to occur. My general question is are oil samples benificial on slow turning equipment? If I knew other dominant failure modes other than potential metal wear that would probably help. Any thoughts/expereinces from the community? Thanks
