A cheap fairly accurate/repatable viscometer is made by Louis C. Eitzen. it's called the Viscgage. Cost is about $450 US Dollars.

I just got permision to order TAN and Water test kits from Dexsil corp. The Water kit uses a small handheld meter and costs $500. The Titra-Lube TAN field test kit uses a small handfull of chemicals that come in a disposable box. I don't know how well either of these work.

If anyone has had problems with these please write back.
Thanks, Phil

The TBN and TAN kits work quite well, especially when you consider how inaccurate the ASTM methods are, the field kits come out almost better than doing the lab version, except for the disposable items issue (we never used the water test kits.... )
