Can someone recommend some relatively cost efficient kit that has oil analysis capabilities? Is the paper blot test reliable?

I'd lke to be able to use this equipment in the field.

Check the TMEH1 OilCheck. Through its comparative operation OilCheck is able to show changes in oil condition affected by water content, fuel contamination, metallic content and oxidation, to within a typical repeatability factor of better then five per cent. These results in turn provide an indication of the loss of lubricating properties of the oil and also of and mechanical wear in the equipment in which the oil is used.

Consider talking to your oil supplier, they may have something that may be of use.

Mobil have onsite field kits available, these allow you to pull your own filter patch, check for moisture content(ppm) and also do a viscosity check. In Australia Mobil call it the Wavis Test Kit.
