I've been asked to purchase a new counter to replace our benchtop mesh blockage unit. I'm looking at the Pall and HIAC inline particle counters. Does anyone have experience with these? Is there an industry preference?

Any feedback will be appreciated.

just to give some more ideas I can mention some other suppliers:
- Hydac
- Internormen
- UCC

I have no experience with any of theese, but I do belive Hiac is one of the largest producers of this kind of instruments. (I think they make for several of the other brands).

Hiac does produce a online particle counter for various companies, Filtertechnik, Stauff, Hydac etc. It is just rebadged.

The Hiac units give good repeatable results, the biggest hurdle I've had to overcome during installation is getting a quality sample point to feed the particle counter. They are very fussy/tempramental about the oil supply. They are also subject to blocking up if dirty oil is passed through them. There are various offline filter carts with these units fitted that maybe a good option for you. Check out http://www.filtertechnik.co.uk, they have one.

Pall have a couple of online units available, one is pore blockage the other is laser, being a Pall product I would expect these both to be of the highest quality.

mr.Hughes mentioned UCC. UCC was taken over by Parker some time ago so I expect there gear would be excellent as well.

The best portable on-line particle counter on the market currently is the HACH PODS Unit. Only unit capable of ISO11171 certifcation/compliance. High particles concentration limit 90,000/ml.
