I have a 1992 Toyota Camry with 460,000+ kilometers that does not burn oil but leaks it from the va**e cover and oil pan gaskets at the rate of about two liters per 5000 kilometers. I've been quoted $700.00+ to replace the gaskets. I'd like to keep the car for another year or so but am reluctant to replace the gaskets. I've used Va**oline Max Life for he last two oil changes with some improvement. Does anybody have any advice on how to reduce thsi leakage further?

If you know where it's leaking, that shouldn't too hard to have the service mech. replace the gasket but the real problem might be a more obscure place like a bearing, etc.

Since you have seen improvement using the Maxlife...stick with it or other high mileage oil like Mobil , Castrol and see if oil loss is further reduced . These oils and seal conditioners don't work overnight .
If your only keeping it one more year thats like the price of 4-8 quarts of oil vs the 700 bucks you were quoted . |
