Ok, the king of asking questions about gourmet brands of oil is at it again. I've checked the specifications on their site, have read many pros and cons about the longevity, additive packages and the Moly and Zinc levels, and personally talked to them. The oil seems to be very good from my understanding, but not as a long term oil. It also is rather pricey, but not exhorbitantly so (unless using the SR-5 racing version full synthetic).
Basically, I was looking for some experienced users and if they would recommend this product? Let the discussion begin... |

My opinion is I would rather buy from them than large oil companies for certain but the SR-1 to me , ranks with the likes of other mainstream OTC mostly groupIII synthetics in performance , excluding the Mobil Extended Performance of course .
They have very nice packaging though . |

I can see your point Motorbike, but I still like helping the little guy over the big corporation. It's just the way I feel, nothing to do with that the corperation might put out a fantastic product, because there are things that I have no choice in using that are made from big companies. Well, onward and upward.
The product I was interested in from Torco was their 0w20 SR-5 racing motor oil. According to the technical department, it is Group IV & V combination, with a beefier additive package than whats in the SR-1, which is a Group III & IV blend. It's quite a botique oil in price level, coming in at almost $12 per liter, but I was hoping to get 10,000 mile OCI's out of it as compared to the 3000-5000 miles that I'm getting with my Renewable Lubes HOBS 5w30 oil. The difference in cost is negligable, as the HOBS oil is about $6 per quart after adding the shipping charges to it. I have read on BITOG about the SR-1 product and would have to concur ith you on it's toughness being on par with what I could pick up on the shelf, that's what prompted me to the SR-5 product. Now I drive a Honda CR-V that does state the 5w20 requirement, but I have used 5w30 with no appreciable difference in mileage, but with winter coming on with my next OCI, I figured I'd give the 0w20 a chance to strut its stuff. Any more comments will be greatly appreciated, along with maybe your personal recommendations. |
