I haven't looked into this area much before - but now that LPG fuel systems are more popular does anyone have any idea if there are differing or reccommended specs for gas systems?
I know Castrol has a GTX designed for gas - SAE 15W-40, API SH/CF-4. |

Astrixstar,
In India more and more commercial vehicles are being run on LPG gas commonly used for domestic cooking purpose. There are two distinct advantages, one is price and the second is it is less polluting. The modus operendi is to start the engine with petrol and then switch to LPG Gas. Castrol GTX is widely used as a lubricant for many of these vehicles and there are no complaints till date. However care is to be taken if LPG available for industrial purposes in India is used for vehicles. It will probably have a higher Sulphur content, in which case a higher TBN oil like RX Super is recommended. Hussam Adeni |

I fully agree with Hussam Adeni that care should taken about the fuel . Another point that I would like to add is LPG fuelled engines operate at higher temperatures than petrol and therefore the oxidation stability of the engine oil should be of high caliber . ChevronTexaco has upgraded the Havoline series motor oil for use with CNG / LPG engines meeting those requirements. |
