JASO is just their verion/organization comparable to our SAE, NMMA, ILMA, API, ILSAC, ASTM, ISO, ACEA..... and then there are the numerous OEM specs.
Many performance specs are similar. But, you'll need to verify various test methodology to see which specs are similar. Each organization has a membership method. Again, you'll need to join or be a member for specific info, or borrow that info from a company that you work for that is a member. Signature: Check your tire pressure, drive slow, and use less gas. JASO is indeed another organisation, but additionally I would like to mention that JASO focusses on the friction characteristics of an engine oil which is used in a combined engine/transmission of a motorcycle engine. 'Normal' engine oils may cause problems in these wet clutch applications.
Most of the motorcycle oils meet JASO MA easily up to API: SG (without extra test). Above API: SG they use VI improvers which ruin the wet clutch characteristics in longterm use. Above API: SG you mostly see the additional JASO MA approval mentioned at the specifications. .:[EM]:. |
