Assuming a need for a fuel additive, what is a good additive? I am looking for lubrication of the fuel system parts, cleaning, and fuel stabilization (my motorhome sits for 2 months at a time). And my second question is what frequency should the additive be used? Obviously for lubrication, it should be used continuously. I prefer something I can get in a gallon to minimize cost.

Well, I know next to nothing about the kinds of products you're asking about, and I've gathered over the last few weeks that Redline is a more controversial company than I'd thought. But they do make several fuel additives you might want to read about. I've used their SI-1 gasoline engine fuel additive and have been pleased, or at least not displeased. Check this out:

I am currently using Lube Control, but have no way of telling if any of this works. When I first started using Fuel system adds in 2004 I picked up some Redline SI-1. I put a whole bottle in the F150 (had 105,000 miles) and it seemed to make a difference. Tried in the motorhome (70,000 miles) and Aerostar (100,000 miles) and did not notice any effect. In Nov 2004 I switched to Schaeffer’s Neutra and used it in all three vehicles at one ounce per gallon. Last Nov I picked up a gallon of Fuel Power and have been using that up to now. One thing about Fuel Power is it is supposed to make your tailpipe clean of black deposits. Not happening for me, last I looked. So my main problem is do I just use one of these products on faith or give up and just use a once per oil change dose of something like Chevron Tectron. Of course the motorhome needs a fuel stabilizer and I think Neutra is a good choice for that, but Stabil might be just as good.

TallPaul,
Thank-you for contacting 59 Vetteman for me. I was not able to receive the PM yesterday because I was locked off the board. However, today I was finally allowed to log in long enough to retrieve the PM. Again let me say how much I appreciate all your help. Sincerely, GoldenRod |

TallPaul...FP60 is working for even if the tail pipe is not clean. Understand FP60 is not like the every oil change type cleaners. Why let the crap build up in the first place?
Also if you have FP60 on hand why the need for Neutra or Stabil??? Neither of those are as good as FP60 at stabalizing fuel and keeping the system lubricated. |

Why? Spread the wealth with all the BOTG site sponsors.
The are many products that can be dosed if you like that per tank hassle. For some of us, a shock treatment at ever oil change works well enough. Signature: Check your tire pressure, drive slow, and use less gas. Screw OPEC! |

You bet it's a hassle and I've come to find it's a waste of time for myself and my uses . It's hard to beat some Techron or Berryman B12 through the tank every so often . The B12 works very well as witnessed by looking thru long overlap Kawasaki engine intake ports before and after usage and is low cost . Shock dosing once a year is enough for my cars even though some makers say every 3k miles . But what do I know about this stuff |

Thanks guys. I think I should do the once per oil change routine which would put me at one or two times per year on two vehicles that are driven regularly. The motorhome sits for 2 months at a time, so probably dose it with Neutra before parking it each time.

Spread the wealth with all BOTG sponsors????don't even know what that means.
Tossing in a few ounces when you get home is to much? You guys are missing it. Don't treat the symptoms treat the cause. All these 3,000 mile cleaners or once a year cleaners simply remove crap once it's built up. FP60 will treat the underlying issue....poor fuels. And don't think for a second the fuel you use is as good as advertised. With the way you think I should not eat healthy or get a flu shot I should just wait until I get sick and then treat the resulting symptoms instead of avoiding it all together. |

I'm taking it that you think thats a bad thing for a low cost , low hassle product to work as intended On another note ,some of the available products out there have types of oil in them and if "I" wanted to burn oil in "my" combustion chamber I'd locate an old ............... Saturn |

Hey Paul ,
A racer just sent me a copy of his used oil analysis of some Cosworth 0w-30 synthetic engine oil which lead me to go to their site . Check this out because there might be something to this fuel additive especially in that it cleans in one treat . Might be good when towing heavy trailers in summer heat , motor homes ect . http://www.liquidcosworth.com/fuel/default.asp BTW , are you on the engine oil mailing list yet ? |

The Liquid Cosworth fuel treatment is interesting, but for $9 per 12 oz bottle, I will have to stick with Neutra at $20 per gallon shipped.
Never heard of the engine oil mailing list. This message has been edited. Last edited by: TallPaul, |

If I was "in your shoes" I'd check out two options Amsoil offers: 1.) P.I. (Performance Improver, CPI) 2.) Gasoline Stabilizer, AST The stabilizer only comes in 472 ml. bottles but you can get a case of w/ 6 of them. The P.I. can be ordered in larger options, i.e 3.78 litre can but should check first. My recommendation is to alternate your gallon purchases and see if you can determine which "feels" the best.
Marvel is $10 a gallon at warmart. Lucas is $20 a gallon at advancedauto. 2-stroke oil varies depending on brand but I saw a name brand blend at warmart for $10 a gallon. Schaeffers has a range of products 131/131c/131tt. Lubri-gas is another. I'm too lazy to per tank dose. At every oil change, I just dump in a bottle of whatever I decide to buy. I alternate among the good brands like Techron/Seafoam/Regane/Redline/Amsoil/B12..... For extended storage, I just toss in some Stabil, Pri-G, B&S, CRC, or whatever fuel stabilizer is available at the local marine supply or small engine service. Signature: Check your tire pressure, drive slow, and use less gas. Screw OPEC! |

AMSOIL makes a great additive for gasoline engines. Stock number is API-BF and one bottle treats up to 160 gallons of gas. Used it in a VW that had braided fuel lines and it it cleaned so well it cleared up the line so you could see the gas just like when the line was new. Very impressive stuff.
