ConfusedI have hopefully an easy question.In a 15w40 API CJ-4 oil What is the additive Boron used for. I perform oil anlysis on my vehicles.

Friction midifier and a mild AW additivee used when ZDDP is reduced to still give valve trian protection moly is also used aswell as other additives. Boron and moly are the most common used in delo I think.

Boron is also used in Chevron Delo GL-5 gear oil instead of soft metal abrasive sulphur. That makes it suitable for almost all gear boxes using soft metal parts requiring GL-4 without any fear of damage.

that is true but boron on CVX gear oils are potasium borate NOT same stuff that is in a PCMO

Thanks for the detail, I was aware boron was implemented differently on the tranny oil but you explained it better.

My apologies, I was wrong in the other post.

I had reference to Boron as a detergent additive, and mis typed, dispersant.

I plain forgot about its use as a AW/friction additive.

Next time, I'll be less hasty.
