I have a Protege5 Mazda, I always took the car to the dealers to have the oil changed. I was sick of them overfilling it and them having to pump about a quart back out all of the time. So I took it to one of those Jiffy quick oil change places and guess what? When I checked the oil the next day it was at least 1 quart overfilled. Before each oil change I discussed with both companies of overfilling and they always tell me it takes 3.7 quarts and they won't put in any more than that. This has happened to me now at least 8 times. Maybe the wrong dipstick is in my car? I have no clue..any ideas?

These guys are too lazy to only put enough until the full-flow filter is full, i.e. to the full mark, then it should be topped up. How soon after your service do you check this? As a DIY'er, that's pretty basic.

Are they using a pressure gun that has a dial on it. If you, you are getting what is ever listed in a guide they go by for different vehicles. It is likely they don't check it after filling. Checking is more complicated than filling. They have to remove the dip stick, wipe it off, insert it again and take a reading, way too much trouble. After all it's only your car. You might see, now, whey a lot of people change their own oil. And overfilling can be bad for your engine. One quart won't do much, but it should be at the correct level.

Would it be possible to get a turkey baister thing and pull some oil up from the place where the oil is poured into? Or does the oil have to be drained from the plug? or a tube going into the dipstick place and pumping the oil back out?

And yes they used the gun method.

There are pumps with hoses that you insert into your dipstick hole that can remove the excess oil. The cap where you put the oil in is usually up high on the engine like a valve cover or the lifter gallery and there is no way to get a hose down into the oil pan where the oil is. There are nifty replacement plugs that have quick connect valves and plugs that you can put in to remove some oil without a wrench. Take the extra oil back to the manager and ask for your money back.
