I'm not an oil pro, just a consumer who is trying to get educated on oil.

I found something that's called "Motor Oil Bible" online (not the complete version) that was talking at a technical level that I was comfortable with.

Does anyone know of something that's written like that and available? I don't want a grad-level tribological text as I'll never get past the table of contents.

Thanks.

Regards,
paul...

What do you want to know? Who's the best? When to change it? Synthetic or non-syn? How about ENGINEERED? What do you drive? How do you drive it? Where do you drive it? Long drives or short? Dirt roads or not? I'll lead you to a ton of info so you can make an informed decision if that's what will help. monolec@cox.net

Greasy,

Thanks for the offer -- I don't have anything specific to ask but I thought that the Motor Oil Bible was good (for me and my level of knowledge) and would have liked to get the full version of it, which doesn't seem to be avaiable anymre.

Regards,
paul...

Its good reading. But, its just 1 opinion.
Not all points are valid. And, the data is definitely dated.

(Still) want complete "Motor Oil Bible"?
You can "pick it up" @ http://www.lubedealer.com/cymbeline/links.aspx
When you open Motor Oil Bible link at that page go to "...download my ebooks here". After that click @ Bonus Report #3 and - that's it!
Hope that helps and that you'll like reading it all.

I hope I don't get thrown off the site for this but I can't think of any way to sugar coat this. The author of " The Motor Oil Bible" is a man on a mission and I hate to be the one but someone has to protect the rest of you. I have never read such nonsense in my life. I started seeing pure blarney as soon as I went to his site. I fell sorry for anyone using this as a guide to help protect and prolong the life of something as important as your valuable and beloved engines. I'll debate him anytime.

Motor oil Bible is a great read. Lots of good info. Some of the info is getting "old" and the oil rankings are very old.

The author is religious but I don't think that is a reason to boycott his material.

motor oil is based on a dbn and tbn level dbn is detergent based net additives and tbn is total base net additives. dbn think laundry detergent in a sense motor oil never goes bad it gets to dirty to lubricate properly so the higher dbn detergent base net # you have the better. the max is 14 now tbn total base net additives if you dont have additives in your oil you have base oil (hopefully parrafin based) and house hold bleach lubricates better than base oil. therfore the higher that level the better the oil. we could go into anti foam agents, dispersants, seal swell additives, and so on but the best motor should have a very high tbn and dbn level but a good balance of the 2 is also imprortant steward enterprise has a 14 dbn and a 14 tbn motor oil which is the top of the chart for motor oil. www.stewardenterprise.com 800-569-6845 ask for james steward
