Ok, this is the Ford 3.0 Duratec metal particles in the oil revisited.

I'm now at 4200 miles on the car (2005 Ford 500). From the first oil changes, I have been getting a lot of metallic dust and small particles dumping out with the oil. Initially, I heard a rapping in the engine, that I associated with the metal in the oil.
At this point, the noise is fading out, and is only noticable on occaision - if it was something bad, I think it would be getting worse, not better. Also, I have cut open some of my early oil filters, and they are clean, and free of metal particles.

This leads me to think that what I'm seeing is just a lot of left over swarf and junk from manufacturing. I'm seeing slightly less material with each oil change, but it's still noticable. Is there something I can use to wash the rest of this stuff out once and for all? An engine cleaner / additive / washout that really works?

Thank you!

No need for additives . Draining it out is the only way . Drain it hot with the engine level or tilted toward drain hole and be sure to crack open the oil filter seal for maximum draining while hot .

I suspect it is more of a case of continued engine break-in than residue left in the engine. Especially in light of the fact that the knock is becoming less noticable. I'm not a big fan of oil additives. A old or neglected engine may benefit from additives. If you are using the properly formulated oil for your application additives should not be necessary.
