I have been having difficulty with compressor motor bearings. As I took over the reliability program I found that compressor motor bearings were not getting greased due to "inaccessability of the drain" and we have had 5 failures in 10 months costing over $100,000. To facilitate the proper greasing of these bearings I installed grease lines and routed them out to a more accesable area. One line for the fill and one line for the drain and prefilled the lines with grease. These lines are between 3' and 5' long. I have instructed that the drains are to be opened when greasing and a 30 min run time before reinstalling the plug. I am using Chevron SRI 2 grease and I'm afraid that there will be oil seperation problems in the drain lines. Is this practice acceptable or do I need to remove the drain lines and make them remove the drain on the motor itself. I have e-mailed Ingersoll Rand and have never recieved a reply. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
