Do you experience any viscosity loss in using VG 1000 synthetic gear oils for the reason of Mechnical shear.

Thanks!

Tony

What difference does it make what brand or type oil is? It is VG 1000 synthetic gear oil, which means it is intended for gear lubrication and, I am positive, it has comparative characteristics with other VG 1000 synthetic gear oils.

As to the original question, it is normal to expect for molecules to get sheared off, and consequently, such oil thins over time. The rate of shearing would hinge on speed and load. In other words, it would depend on the distribution of lubrication regimes (see Stribeck-Hersey curve) for this application.
