I have two questions.
1. What makes a slideway lubricant? Is there any additives in the lubricant?

2. There is a type of oil used to coat machine parts to prevent it from rusting (even though exposed to weather). Does anyone know any equivalent oil, brand name etc, and what it composes of?

If anyone have any information on this, I'd really appreciate your help.

1. a slideway lube do contain additives; EP, tackiness, oxidation, pour point depressants

2. Esso Rustban, Sun Oil Anti-Rust BSH, Shell Ensis. This is ranges of products. Almost everyone have rustpreventing products.
These products can be made of oils or vaxes plus a solvent that evaporate to ease applying. It will of course also contain some additivs, corrosion tackiness etc. You have multiple product to choose among, regarding how long protection time you want, and the storage conditions.
