Is there any difference between marine oil and other engine oils? Can we use the usual car motor oil for marine application. Like, lets say for 2-stroke engine..

Hi Hazel
The post has a couple areas of confusion that could cause damage,
with 4 stroke engines oils < than say 250 300 hp, most good quality engine oils suitable for the type of engine will be OK,
Now the last item mentioned, 2 stroke cannot use the 4 stroke engine oils as the lubricant is combusted,
These marine 2 stroke engines work best with specific lubricant, eg; Marine 2 stroke lubricant, the reason is this area has high corrosion and usually stable engine temp due to heaps of cooling, so typically Marine Two Stroke will have additional corrosion control and a base oil more suitable for a lower temperature application that when compared to air cooled,

I dont know alot about marine oils - I do remember something about the 'Ash' content is usually lower as marine fuels have higer sulphur content to offset air salinity. I'd get that confirmed with your OEM.
