I am planning on implementation of certification (MLA & MLT) for all Lubrication personnel. This particular work site is a union environment within forest/paper products. This also means a change in job description/requirements is achieved by mutual consensus. I am currently generating a presentation for this justification.
If any of you would be so kind as to state what the practical benefits are in obtaining this certification and how it assists with equipment reliability, it would be advantageous in justifying this program. I have done much research on this issue. I would like to here from those that have this certification and how it has been beneficial, before I move forward. You may also email your response (regarding this issue) to keep the message board clear, just let me know.

The advantage is that they are doing thier job correctly, and can identify/fix lubricant related problems as they occur!
Are they dedicated lubrication personel or machine operators / store people?
In my experience - if it's only a tertiary job to perform lubrication - they probably won't do it properly - if at all. Many workers don't even realise there is a lubrication problem - and don't care either because its not thier money being spent to replace equipment.
You can also create a safer, more productive work environment (especially where heavy machinery is involved).
At the end of the day - without an accredited training course, you're leaving critical jobs in the hands on SOPS (which are rarely read) and word of mouth (which is easily misinterpereted or lost when an employee leaves the firm). It also will help them understand why this procedure is down rather than just how.
