2 body abrasion is when a very rough surface is rubbed against another "2 wear surfaces such as a Crank shaft and bearing.
3 body is when a Hard particle is in contact with 2 opposite surfaces. Crank shaft with a hard particle in between the crank and bearing. bruce |

Another way to look at is is 2 body abrasion is like sandblasting where the erosive action is what causes the wear. As was indicated 3 point wear is when the particle is lar*** than the fluid film thickness hence the particle comes in contact with both surfaces, usually while under high forces.

When the asperity of 2 sliding surfaces comes in contact and cause a slight fracture on these asperity then what you have is a two body abrasion later on this becomes a 3 body abrasion since this is trapped between the 2 sliding surface clearance. A Three body abrasion usually is a third party or foreing material trapped between 2 sliding surfaces.
