Having a problem that some of you experts may be able to help out with. The Lub Oil Filter elements on the machine are not lasting any length of time and the differential pressure across the filter is higher than expected. Grade in use is Perfecto T 32. Can any one pass comment?

Dear Steve,
The problem you are facing might be due to oil what is being used. I have seen no. of mineral oil results in fast oxidation forming sludge and varnish quite freqently. Filter element is choked and differential pressure rises above noemal limits.
As I am not aware of properties of oil used so you may go for more frequent oil change in case if it is mineral oil. Other option is to go for Synthetics or Unconventional base oil having high Viscosity Index and better oxidation resistance additive package. Other tips:
1)New oil should be filtered to ISO 16/14/11 or better before it is used.
2) Keep water content less than 100 ppm.

If water content is high, you might want to invest in a bacteria test. If you have microbacterial growth, the filters will get clogged fast.

Steve -- Perfecto T 32 is a mineral oil based lubricant. Depending upon temperature and other parameters, this type of oil can rapidly oxidize. Oxidation products are sludges, varnishes and/or laquers that would form insoluble deposits that can be trapped in your filter. An analysis of the deposits in the filter and/or an analyis of the lube oil could reveal if this is occuring in your system.

A Synthetic Lubricant could be used to minimize this problem, if it is occuring. Before making any recommendation, we would need to know and understand the operating parameter of the compressor and the gas being compressed.

Dear Steve,
The first thing you need to do is to check and analyse the remaining of the filter (Perfecto T32's supplier, Castrol can do it), the oil is on oxidation or contaminated with water or other impurity like metal particles. Synthetic or hydrogenated mineral oils will have better performance than Perfecto T32's.
