Does anyone have a set of procedures for the Lubrication of equipment? A sort of standard operating procedure for greasing/oiling your equipment?

If so, how did you develop them?

Thanks,

Kevin ,I would say each companys procedures would be differant .Every company should use the 5 R's of lubrication and it would be up to trained personal to write the procedures for your plant .I suggest a lube survey be your starting point. Depending on your man power and size of operation it is time consumering but worth it .

Sandman,
The 5 r's is the right product, right place, right amount , right time, right attitude .
You cover all this in procedures and job plans and you are well on your way .Granted there is alot of work to get all this info and if no one in your facility has had some very good training it very well may require you to hire an lube consultant .

I would add that 3 of those R's are frequently, if not always, ignored : right place, right amount and right time.

People assume that by having massive lubrication everywhere at all times, they save themselves a lot of problems. In almost all applications, it's completely the opposite. We assemble and integrate micro lubrication systems in various industries and those 3 R's are at the core of our design work.

We have, time and again, eliminated problems that our customers had learned to live with because they thought they had to. We have also helped customers discover problems they didn't know they had (to much lubrication will often mask problems) and thus helped them further increase their productivity.

My recommendation is to take a close look at those 3 R's.

Good luck,
