Hello, I'm looking for grease help. Our rebuild shop has found a snag in the last 3-4 months. It seams the grease we used for our starter drives was changed. The packaging of the grease stayed the same, only a noticeable number of drives have begun failing within a month of operation. All of them reach a temperature where the springs loose tension. This is after 20 years of drive building without a problem.

We have grease being shipped to us from out drive roller and spring supplier, but this is 10-15 days away. I'd love any information of a good quality grease that is available from stores that will fit our application.

The drive is a spring loaded clutch that spins around 5,000-8,000 rpm for short periods. We build industrial and marine drives so these may stay engaged longer that normal and spin at higher rpm than normal.

thank you for any information on reliable grease.

Can you elaborate:
What specific grease have you been using?
What are you seeing... discoloration of spring, metal debris, separation of oil/thickener?
Has anything changed with the application?
What about quantity used?
