What is the best practice for Oil drain interval on pumps. Is it based on the calender days or running hours?

Hi
the best practice for establishing Oil drain intervals on pumps will be by monitoring the lubricant condition, Easiest would be to monitor particle count, viscosity and water levels in the lubricant, any significant change in these three would be immediately checked by resampling and completing by Wear Debris Analysis or Ferrogram to find the root cause for the change and once the cause is known then it can be removed. If there are no significant changes in these three then there would be no reason to service the pump. Frequency of sampling???
Depends on so many factors largely self evident. How important is the pump to the operation? Contamination of the lubricant(water) is a common fault. What is the fluid being pumped? Operating ambient temperature(normal or wide/high). Suggest as Rob S initially frequent regular samples to obtain a trend then sample less ferquently. For v.important pumps suggest monthly anyway. |

Something often forgotten as a starting point to determine drain intervals is to check the manufacturers recommendations in the owners manual. If you don't have a owners manual try contacting the manufacturer.
