We have chain operated spill operating gates at one of our facilities. The chains are partially submerged in fresh water and are lubricated both externally and internally. We have used a viscous, envirmentally friendly grease called Hus-kit Hydrolube I think, a white grease. Does anyone know where we can get it? Or can anyone make a recommendation? THX

Larry,
What sort of operation is this. Are the chains slow moving? How often are you greasing the chains?

Jonas - Its for reservoir control. Gates are normally closed. If excessive inflows occur and we cannot control the level via ganerating then we spill via the gates. The gates are very slow moving say 40 tons each, 1 or 2 ft/min, with a chain on either side. I think we are geasing every couple of years now. There are grease nipples on the pins for the links for internally greasing and then we coat externally for corrosion resistance.

Larry,

Huskit Hydrolube is one of the fully synthetic greases offered from Huskey Corporation. We were getting it from their dealer Jay Thurber, jat@tekfast.com, 503-246-8818. You may contact him if he is still in this business (last time I saw him, he was talking about the retirement). Even if he's already retired, he would be able to point you in the right direction.

Larry- try schaefferoil.com and look for a rep in your area. Schaeffer's works with a lot of power plants and can recommend the right grease. They make a 100% waterproof aluminum complex grease in both food grade (if you need that) and non-food grade grease.

Huskey Specialty Lubricants (Husk-Itt Corp.) develops and manufactures Greases, Anti-Seize, Sealants. Huskey currently provides various NSF & H1 (Old designation) lubricants for the Hydro Industry and Food plants. John M. I'm not retired yet. Will probably be a long time before I bail out.
