Dear Vin,
I think best way to get rid of this problem is to check and correct the sealing arrangements as per acidic medium.

If you have solved the problem of acid ingression then why not just replace the oil? It would probably be a more economical solution than finding a chemical way to nutralize the acid without effecting the oil properties. You ned to ask your oil supplier for a solution like that. A chemist familiar with blending of oils and additives would need to probably custom design a potion to help you out.

As Buckhntr suggested please change the gear oil ( 800 lt). Sulphur in traces (2 to 4% ) does enough damage by itself in an engine oil type of environment. The dangerous part of sulphur, is that it oxidises easily with temperature or pressure; and in the presence of moisture, a deadly potion. To compound things, it also has a snowballing effect.

If you seek protection against acids, try a high TBN Marine engine oil. Till a couple of years ago Castrol offered its TLX 505 (a 50 TBN SAE 50 oil) or TLX 504 (a 50 TBN SAE 40 oil) to selected DG Sets. The cost, needless to say, would be 50% more than that of a SAE 90, or AGMA 6 EP Industrial gear oil. Except, for demulsibility the grade will overperform on other properties.

VIN,
You said

If that is a silicon base sealant, this will increase your foaming problems.

Vin,

Foaming is due to Air Leak,Particulate Contamination,Oxidation By-Products,Grease Contamination,Silicon/Gasket Leaching.Acrylate
Copolymer Anti-foam additive may be suitable
to bring down foaming. It's important to remember
that overadditizing leads to excess foam problems.Suggest to check Viscosity,TAN,Wear
Elements/Contaminants,Moisture to know the
condition of oil and Gear box.If things are
excess, drain the oil and consider thorough
flushing of gear box to eliminate the contamination.

Regards

Bala.
