It is a big subject, let me explain in a nutshell.
Synthetic oils:
They possess higher oxidation stabilty and thermal stabilty;this means oils can last longer, can resit oil degradition. They also have excellent low temperature fluidity, so good for cold limatic conditions.
Mineral oils:
Possess less oxidation and thermal stability and not good for low temperature fludity compared to syntheic oil. So, they require balanced additive doping.

Finally, if operating conditions such as environment is dusty and dirt and extremly severe high operating temperature, no matter which oils you use, oil performance will deteriate faster than anticipated.
