We are having problems with lubrication in Sundyne Vertical Pumps. We are using Turbine Oil, but we have a lot of foam.
We are evaluating change to an hydraulic or A** fluid. I would like to have your comments. Thanks. |

Currently using shell tellus 46 in 2 sundyne pumps, 1 foamy in sight glass and 1 showing minimal foam,at around 70 degrees, foam problems reduced after switching from automatic trans fluid to tellus, currently having problems with mech seals (tandem gas seals)

There are two problems on these gearboxes. The first one is very short retention time and the second could be improperly bent suction tubing. If the tip of this tubing is set too high the oil pump is going to pick up a foam from the sump.

Cristian,
We are using Castrol Isolube 32 (synthetic) in our Sundyne vertical pumps and compressors. We have found that running the oil too cold or too high a level causes excessive foaming. We run the level at 50% of the sight glass when the unit is shutdown and try to keep our oil temp around 140 deg. F. Hope this helps. |

Cristian, synthetics are preferred by Sundyne. As well as longer life it reduces problem with seals coking. ISO VG 32 under 200hp otherwise ISO VG 46. ATF dexron III oils are not acceptable by Sundyne.
Mobil SHC 524/624/824 all suitable with 824 showing minimal foam. |
