There are now lubricants and greases entering the market that inhibit microbial growth.
The food industry has been using this technology for some time now. These lubricants have an anti microbial additive that protects the grease or oil. I decided to post this after reading the recent article Q&A: Controlling Microbial Growth in the Lube-Tips newsletter. |

Not only the food industry but also some oils for offshore oil rigs and marine applications opwerating with moisture and certainly some water content too. Bacteria will grow in water that typically contaminates oil in those industries.

Nothing to new here. They have been using microbial biocides in diesel fuel for longer than I can remember. It's a big problem in the fuel industry.

I guess this thread actually was not a question but an information post?
We have supplied procedures and products for biocide treatment of hydraulic oils, turbine oils, circulation oils in offshore/marine industries for several years (in addition to diesel fuel). It is vital to use correct dosages. |
