Has anyone had good or bad results from filtering and removing water from natural gas compressor lube oil? The intent being to prolong the life of the oil - less frequent oil changes. We intend to try and get 2 years oil life, and are looking at a 10 micron absolute filter and a water removal element.

Tomm,

What is the compressor compressing? Do you know how much water is condensing per week? Can you tell us the oil type/Grade.
What is the manufacturer recommended change interval.

This is a natural gas compressor. It uses Mobil Pegasus 710 SAE 40 mineral oil. There is minimal water, less than 1 gallon per year, with about a 100 gallon oil sump. Oil consumption is about 1 gallon per week. We have been changing the oil yearly, but would like to get 18 months. Recommend change is 1 year, but mfr also sells the oil

Interesting problem! Please contact me, as well. We also have a new commercial product that I think could help.

water adsorbing filter media is available from all the major filter manufacturers and should do the job fine.
