Delvac 1 is a great oil, but also costs 50 dollars a gallon. If this is a diesel in the lower 48, Rotella T-6, Delo, or Delvac 1300 would be fine. Most diesels have a block heater for really cold weather.

For piece of mind, I would use the viscosity that the manufacturer recommends and an oil that meets/exceeds their ISLAC/API spec.
