Read our primer articles on High Mileage Oil, Synthetic Oil and Kinematic Viscosity

I know this is basicaly a car and truck forum, but I need information on 2 cycle oils.

First, I know the difference in air cooled VS water cooled, but how can an oil say they are good for both? Several TC-W3 oils have this claim.

Also, every Synthetic TC-W3 oil has this claim, so does synthetic do it better and why?

Surly someone here knows 2 cycle oils also.

Hi Hasbeen,

first of all some additional information, I found a explaining general description on the TC-W3 specification:

Two Cycle Engine Oil Specification for water cooled engines. Introduced in April 1992 to replace NMMA TC-W2 and offers improved ring-stick protection and lubricity, with higher anti-scuff performance.

I guess the synthetics have a better additive package and thus a better water resistant capability, but I sure some other visitors can give you information on this matter!
