I'm currently analysing acid number of synthetic base-stock lubricants: Polyalphaolefins (PAO) and polyol esters based on vegetable oils without any addtives given by producers.
PAO at the end of 2 weeks at 90ºC suffered an increase of 0,1mgKOH/g, on the other hand in the same conditions the polyol esters raised to double of its value between 1 and 2mgKOH/g. For this last one, literature refers a significant raise at the beginning with stabilisation at a determined value and a subsequent raise which would condemn totally the oil.
How can I determine accordingly to the application determine that it became critical?
