You will not find a synthetic 15W40 avalible off the shelf (amsoil makes an excellent one aimed at marine apps though).

I agree that Mobil 1 would be a great choice for a turbo application, in any of the applicable grades: 0W40, 5W40, or 15W50.

I would probably run the 0W40, but that's merely based on rumor from turbo owners...the others are fine choices.

If for some odd reason you really, really want to run a dino 15W40, Delo and Delvac are probably about equal. I however, would want a real syn oil in that engine!
With the results I'm getting on Delo 15W-40 both in my gasoline engines and Turbo Diesel with 7,000 km changes, I wouldn't look for much more. That is also what the Ford dealers hear use. There is a local shop here that uses Delo 5W-40 in Toyota and Mitsubishi Diesels and is getting extremely good results at 10,000 km intervals. Note: 95% of our roads are unpaved.
Umm, I should have been more specific when I noted that Amsoil made a synthetic 15W40, I knew that some of the other botique oils make them also...but it definitely is not avalible off the shelf like the big four: Delo/Delvac/Rotella/Pennz.

Yeah, I'm sure that you can find it in the random autoparts store now and again, just like the other botique oils, but that doesn't make it availible off the shelf. Finally, the original poster is almost certainly not in North America since he refered to Magnatec. So the odds of him picking up Redline/royal purple/amsoil off the shelf, for a reasonable price is pretty out there. On the otherhand, for example, I beleive that Mobil 1 5W50 IS availble off the shelf too him.

The best 15W -40 engine oil available in the market is an API CI 4 / SL for your turbo charged engines as they are capable of withstanding Exhaust Gas Recirculation ,which is more severe than than turbocharge conditions.

I would recommend Chevrontexaco's DELO 400 API CI 4 /SL diesel engine oil which performs almost like a synthetic fluid in terms of life and soot absorbency.
Thanks for info guy's, yes I am an Aussie living in Melbourne, those other products are here and Mobil 1 is available of the shelf.
We have here Penrite an aussie company blending oils for our conditions, have got a good spec from them on Penrite HPR 10.

Oil companies seem to randomly make decisions about what specs to release. Mobil used to be very good about giving Cold Cranking numbers...now they hide behind the lower, and possibly misleading pour point number.

Castrol refuses to admit that North American Syntec switched from PAO to Group III dino...they even claim that the Group III 0w30 and the German 0w30 are exactly the same.

Shell is reluctant to offer complete info on Rotella T syn.
The best 15W -40 engine oil available in the market is an API CI 4 Plus grade for your turbo charged engines as they are capable of withstanding shoot ,Exhaust Gas, corrison ,filter plugging ,, I am using Duron 15w40 heavy duty engine oil for my car and i run for more then 10-15000 kms without any trouble ,, after using this oil my engine gets cool and free bcoz it has more then 10 extra elements to betterment of our engine . Recirculation ,which is more severe than than turbocharge conditions.

“Believing” without even attempt to do UAO? For me that’s pretty strange approach in technical area. What is your “believing” based on? How do you qualify what is good or bad for your truck? What are (pre)dominant rules for your decisions?… Answers to these (and similar) questions are rather of personal nature than based on science and that is not how it should be.
If you want to take real care about your truck you should point to two most important things – filtration and lubrication. In this, exact order! Therefore, find the best possible oil (and air) filter firstly, than make selection for motor oil.
In order to help you in making selection I’ll tell you that the best possible filtration for diesels is offered by Donaldson and Amsoil. Filters based on (Donaldson’s) nanofiber (Synteq)filtration technology take away the largest quantity of the smallest particles and that undoubtedly is beneficiary for any engine. (Go to Amsoil Online Application Page to find what is applicable to your truck. As an oil filtration upgrade you can latter consider installation of by-pass filter what would greatly improve odds for long life of your engine.
As pointed earlier the next thing is oil selection. Fact is: any brand of synthetic oil is better than mineral oil! Out there on the market various options are available but among the best ones are Amsoil’s 15W-40 Heavy-Duty Diesel & Marine Motor Oil (CI-4+), 10W-30/SAE 30 Diesel Oil (CI-4+/CH-4/CG-4/SL) as energy efficient option and 5W-40 (CJ-4, CI-4+, CH-4, CF) as the most recent oil suitable for DPF engines. With any of these you will not make a mistake.
Use them as it is recommended and don’t forget to do oil analysis! Not only because of oil, do it because of engine condition monitoring.
When time comes put synthetic oil in your truck’s transmission and have a nice, smooth and reliable ride.

Hello,

There is another alternative ...
While 15.40 may be the OE cold weather viscosity ... 15 weight being for cold weather startup protection ...

And 40 weight being the hot operating temperature performance value.

The new for 2007 5.40 Amsoil Diesel oil meets every specification that your Ford demands.

And it is engineered to meet and exceed the use in the EGR recirculation controlled latest generation diesels > to keep wear from occuring and the exhaust emmissions down to pass inspection for long life.

And it does have a year/10,000 mile supported and insured service life - against degrading/oxidizing and being the cause of any engine damages.

And it does give a bit more efficient engine operation - if you are becoming fuel mileage aware of the higher costs of fuel.
**************************************.

The same can be said for the 5.40 European formula engine oil sold by Amsoil >

It does meet the latest specifications for all BMW, VW/AUDI and Mercedes Benz requirements for all powerplants,

gas, diesel or turbo charged - either type.

1 year/10,000 mile service any application.

It should be good enough for your Ford also.
