What oil was/is in the hydraulic system already? (Hydraulic fluids tend to have a higher anti wear additive package than turbine oils, so you'll be missing some of that key protection)
Hi thanks for reply it would be mainly used for tractor diggers forklift etc not heavy use would it be ok I have 5 ibcs of the stuff still sealed as new also I will have to use it .
Well, if you have to use it you are kind of stuck. Without knowing the specific equipment it's hard to be as accurate as possible, but if the viscosity is correct you should be okay. Just keep in mind that residual oil may be incompatible depending on what it is, and you likely won't get as much life out of the components compared to the correct oil.
So, will it work? Probably. Is it recommended? Not really.
Whats the worst that can happen? Should I just try to sell it as its a limited market to buy it
Worst that can happen is burning up your pumps and seizing up of hydraulic components. I would see if the supplier would just swap you for the correct hydraulic fluid.
What about if it was mixed 50/50 with hydraulic oil
Not something I would recommend. The base oils may not be compatible and even if they are, the different additives in the oils may be incompatible.
