I have Mobil DTE 846 for generator seal oil, about 16 gallons. This is the second batch of oil in this system. The first batch was drained and disposed due to demulsibility numbers of 3-0-77. We flushed through the system with a compatible oil and performed a desktop demulsibility test and the results indicated satisfactory. At this point, we drained the compatible oil and put new DTE 846 in the system.

What can cause loss of demulsibility? I have been told that small amounts of chemicals can cause this loss, as well as chalk, et cetera.

Does anyone have any cures for loss of demulsibility?

Thanks

We often find water ingress to be the cause of demulsibility problems. Turbine oils are very sensitive to changes in their inherently good water separability characteristics. The presence of polar species will impact its demulsibility Group II/III basestocks are even more sensitive than Group I basestocks. We have performed several RCA’s for various utilities, mills and OEM’s, please don’t hesitate to contact me with any questions.
