Different specification lubricant between gas engine and diesel engine

Yes there are products that can be used for both diesel and gasoline engines. Its called a "Mixed Fleet Oil". API specifications prefixed by a "C" denote compression ignition, diesel. And Api specs prefixed by an "S" denote spark ignition, gasoline. Therefore as an example, Texaco Ursa Premium TDX SAE 15w40 with the API specs of,
API Service Categories
— CI-4, CH-4, CG-4, CF-4, CF, CD1
— SL, SJ, SH, SG
Is compatible with both diesel and gasoline powered equipment. Please verify thatm the SAE grades applicable for both engine types however.
There are many "Mixed Fleet Products" out there, just verify the API specifications.

Ok then, ReneWA nailed it on the head. You need to provide your lubricant supplier with the proper info on your type of gas and engines.

You should use an oil developed for your application. Here is one I recommend: AMSOIL SAE (20W)-40 Synthetic Natural Gas Engine Oil

If you are running a landfill gas engine, you need something that can handle the chlorine that evolves from decomposing PVC plastic. These are specialized oils, but most majors should carry one.

and yes read the paper and if the engine is an industrial engine it appears (As we knew) you are best to use the right lubricant

On finding out for that specific difference on the engines, it could have been determined more by the things it has. It could have been the pickup truck accessories or parts of it, or the car accessories or parts. As long as it wouldn't mess things up, then it's all good.
