I have a laboratory sample described as a reddish scaling substance found in a Seal Oil Regulator Tank at one of our power plants. The plant uses a mixture of Mobil DTE 797 (80%) and Mobil DTE 732 (20%). I understand 797 is being discontinued and 732 is being substituted. FT-IR shows a close resemblance to a red dye. Has anyone experienced such an occurrance?

I have not seen dye, I have seen increased varnish potential (and varnishing), ultra fine air entrainment, slow release (even though standard tests are SAT, and am spending large money on the issues from a blend of Terrestic GT 32 and DTE 732.

ExxonMobil and Herguth labs do a lot of testing for me, on one unit it took a 40% sweetening. And I have to run an ESP 336 (varnish removal) to finish cleanup.

Sending samples for the other unit here very soon. I expect to do a 40-50% sweetening.

Run a Varnish potential, talk to your Exxonmbil guy, and watch for air buildup, in one tank we started seeing tyhe foam on top become much more robust, stiff almost.

Unit 1 is much better now
