Read our primer articles on Desiccant Breathers and Oil Filter Carts.

My plant has just recoverd from Servo valve failures caused by fine particulate (<3 micron) wear or electo-kinetic wear. To protect against this from happening again one thing we are considering is a change in fluid. We currently use Azko Noble Fyrquel EHC. I need info on other reliable products to research. I have heard of a Bio-Synthetic that is fireproof, made of Corn oil and has a resistivity value of 150. Does anyone have any info on BIO-Syn or EcoSafe EHC?

Thanks,

Dear PhilsTJ,

If the Issue is Sub-micron Particles, then Ray's suggestion is appropriate. However; I would ask for the complete root cause analysis which lead to the dual diagnosis of sub-micron Particles or electrokenetic wear. If you would like an in-depth dialog, I would suggest you send me and Ray an email and then compare the answers to make an informed decision. Please propvide with your email a 2-year history of oil analysis.

We're not quite done with the write-up yet. We have lots of facts to compile.

A brief history is all that is needed. In November 2007 installed new EHC pumping filetering skid with all new fluid, new Hoses and new Moog Servos. Used old piping but flushed prior to connecting up to Servos.

We did find out that the CPE (chlorinated poly - ethylene) rubber based hose does react to Phosephate-esters in that the Chlorides leach out into the fluid to 60-70ppm.
