Hello.

We have a strange problem. We run a ball mill with a NLGI 00 Thixotropic grease. When the mill is running things work fine, but whenever we stop it a lot of foam appears in the grease tank and it eventualy starts spilling grease. If we shut down the lubrication system then the foam stops and stays as it was.

Foam does not desapear but at list no more comes up.

We don't now what to do...

Any sugestions?

Most foaming issues I've come across in ball mill application have either been excessive dirt/dust ingression, water, left over degreaser or kerosine material. There was also one case of incorrectly installed filters. Have you had the grease tested? I'd suggest you include a filter patch test and view the sample under a microscope.
Hi pedrofamado

So if you stop the mill and leave the lube pump running the reservoir overflows.

Have you an air leak on the suction side of the lube pump?
Does the lube recirculate when the mill stops as then the entrained air would go back in the reservoir and expand,
when running the mill any entrained air would be removed by the gears rotation, maybe

Regards
