To my knowledge, I do not think that there is any general mathematical formulae to determine viscosity reduction based on fuel dilution. However, for speccific SAE/ISO grade oils, there are charts to dtermine viscosity reduction for diesel dilution. Oil companies and additive companies technical bulletiens contain these charts. Regarding limits, it vary from one OEM to another OEM; the general rule is 4% to 5% or the viscosity grade falls below one level I.E. sAE 50 to 40 or 40 to 30.

Good Day,

If you know the viscosity of your fuel and the viscosity of your oil then you can use the standard and typical blending charts in the back of most of the lubrication suppliers product information handbooks to give you a rough idea of the viscosity reductions. As previously posted there are many reasons why the viscosity might be reduced however this is the answer to your specific question.
